De International Organization for Standardisation (kortweg ISO) creëerde een code om landnamen voor te stellen. Dat is de ISO 3166 standard geworden die door de ISO onderhouden wordt.
Wat is het verschil tussen ISO alpha-2 en ISO alpha-3
Bij beiden worden de landnamen voorgesteld door letters. ISO alpha-2 door 2 letters en ISO alpha-3 door 3 letters. Je kan het zien als een soort van acroniemen van landnamen.
